Pain, chronic illness, aches and other physical limitations can create a seemingly endless and exhausting cycle of mental and physical distress. In this workshop, Dan Cayer draws on his training as an Alexander Technique teacher and his own experience with chronic pain to demonstrate how we can use mindfulness and other awareness practices to calm our struggles and bring ease to our sufferings. He teaches you how to acknowledge your difficulties with compassion and wisdom, learn to understand your pain and work with it directly, liberating yourself from shame and second-guessing. Dan also provides strategies for finding good posture and inviting relaxation into the body.

Dan Cayer is a nationally certified teacher of the Alexander Technique and a meditator in the Shambhala tradition. After a serious injury left Dan unable to work or carry out household tasks like cleaning dishes, he began studying the Alexander Technique. His return to health, as well as his experience dealing with the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of pain, has inspired him to help others. Dan now teaches the Alexander Technique as a method of recovering balance and well-being. He advocates it as a fantastic embodiment of mindfulness and awareness both on and off the cushion.
