So many New Yorkers are working hard to create an equitable and harmonious world through political and societal activism, and many are becoming discouraged, exhausted, and hopeless at the seemingly enormity of the task before us. Join us for a new monthly meeting designed to help everyone learn to truly take care of yourself and others.

Though compassion is often confused with putting others’ welfare above our own, true wisdom understands that genuine self-concern is the necessary foundation to establish kindness and compassion towards all beings.  In this monthly offering, we’ll discuss the differences between self-compassion and self-indulgence, learn to transform emotional barriers and resistances, and understand how self-judgement and criticism sabotage our relationships with ourselves and others. We'll also explore how to maintain balance and wisdom to prevent burnout and cultivate resilience.

This is an all-levels workshop, designed for beginners as well as more experienced students.  All are welcome.  It will include guided meditation, discussion, and Q&A.

Kimberly Brown is IDP's Executive Director and also a teacher and a graduate of the 2011 Meditation Teacher Training.  She leads mindfulness and compassion classes, workshops, and retreats for groups and individuals.  Kim studies American and Tibetan Buddhism and practices lovingkindness meditation.  Her teaching methods integrate depth psychology, compassion training, and traditional Buddhist techniques as a means to help everyone reconnect to their inherent clarity and openness.
